Postal management tried to conduct several special inspections recently.  Only one route, at our Oak Harbor office, had the inspection completed.  That carrier attended the inspection training held at our union hall. His route is likely to be reduced.

The other special inspections lasted only a day or two, before they were cancelled, as a result of contract violations.  It’s a wonder any mail gets delivered with the inept management we have here in Northwest Ohio.

The carriers at our Wernert’s Station filed so many grievances for forced overtime and other overtime violations that our new Postmaster, Dan Davis, devised an interesting solution.  Practically every TE in the city was reassigned to Wernert’s Station.  Overtime was immediately eliminated at Wernert’s but ballooned at every other station in the city.  Duh!  Rumor has it; management is looking to hire some more TEs.

Our Branch enthusiastically embraced the Save Saturday Delivery petition drive.  As with the Ohio Senate Bill 5 Campaign, Northwest Ohio shamed the rest of the state!  By our calculations, we were 19th in the country with the number of signatures obtained for Save Saturday Delivery.  We were shocked by the poor performance of the large branches in Ohio.  Some branches couldn’t even match the numbers of their own membership!  They couldn’t even pass the petitions around the stations to get their members signatures.

I realize that’s not the point of the petitions.  The idea is to get friends, neighbors, family and the general public involved.  Don’t they get it?  We’re in a fight for the survival of the Postal Service!

On a more positive note, we had another Texas Hold’Em Tournament for MDA in November.  We raised just over $600.00 which enabled us to make another donation of $2500 to MDA.
